Adventures of a 10 year old

Ashley was being draged to the park by one of her older sisters.

Olivia sat in the sand, with a book that looked much too big for a ten year old to be reading. She hadn't wanted to come to the park that day, but her parents had insisted she go spend some time outside on the nicer part of town. She'd complied, but not without grabbing her book first.

Her sister userd Ashley off to go play or whatever.Ashley simpley scanned around,spotting a girl in the sandbox she skiped over.

Olivia was aware of the fact that another girl had approached her, but she didn't look up. She did, however, seem to draw her legs and arms closer to herself as though she were trying to make herself as small as possible.

"Hi!" Ashley smilled down at Olivia.

"Hi..." Olivia squeaked, barely audibly, and kept her eyes trained firmly on her book.

" Whats wrong..?" Ashley asked,sitting down next to her.

Olivia quickly moved away and kept her eyes downcast. She wasn't used to people her age being nice to her, so she wasn't expecting this girl to treat her any better than anyone else did. "N-nothing..." she muttered.

Ashley frowned. "Theres no need to be scared..Im not going to bit." she giggled.

Olivia peered up briefly from her book before looking back down and shaking her head. She'd heard that before, she wasn't going to believe it a second time.

"What? Im not going to hurt you.no need to be scared.

"A lot of people say that..." Olivia murmured, beginning to play with her necklace, a piece of string with a few beads strung onto it, obviously handmade. Her and her sister had made them for each other years ago, and Olivia never took her's off.

"What do you mean..?" i really wont,..."

"How do I know that?" Olivia asked. She wasn't very trusting at this age, with good reason.

"Becauuse I won't..?" Ashley sugested, not knowing how to asure olivia.As she wasn't the brightest kid at this age..

Olivia just shook her head again and, placing her book down beside her, drew her knees up to her chest and did her best to curl up into a tiny ball in order to disappear. It wasn't working, obviously.

Ashley sighed,geting boerd of trying to convince Olivia.She just wanted someone to play with...

Olivia kept her eyes trained on the sand and she dug her toes into it. She hoped Ashley would just go away, she didn't want to talk to anyone.

"Do you wanna play?" she asked

Olivia shook her head frantically. "No." Just the idea scared her.

"Why not!" she pouted

"I-I dun wanna," Olivia protested, frowning and wrapping her arms tightly around herself.

"Why not!" she frowned "Itll be funnnnn"

"I don't want to!" Olivia protested more, shaking her head violently.

"Why dont you want to!"
